Why fall is the season for laser resurfacing
Summer in Tampa means boat days, beach weekends and a lot of sun. By fall, many people notice the results: new dark spots, uneven tone, rougher texture and fine lines that seem more obvious. Fall and winter are a smart time to treat that damage, for a few simple reasons.
- Less sun exposure. Freshly treated skin is more sensitive to the sun for a while. Cooler months usually mean fewer pool days and long hours outdoors, which makes protecting your skin after treatment easier.
- Time for a series. Pigment and acne scarring often do best with a series of 2–3 sessions spaced several weeks apart. Starting in the fall gives you time to finish before spring.
- Results by the holidays. Visible improvement commonly develops over about 2–6 weeks as the skin remodels, so a fall treatment lines up nicely with holiday photos and events.
This is Florida, so sun protection is a year-round job, and it matters most after a laser treatment. We recommend a high-quality mineral sunscreen with zinc oxide every day, plus a hat and shade, in December just as much as in July.
Protect your skin (and your results) with Marini Skin Solutions
A2 carries the Marini Skin Solutions line of medical-grade skin care, including a mineral zinc sunscreen. Mineral sunscreen sits on top of the skin and reflects UV light, and it is often a comfortable choice for sensitive or freshly treated skin.
Your provider can also recommend Marini products to help prepare your skin before laser treatment and support it during recovery, and to protect it from the strong Florida sun all year. Ask about the right routine for your skin at your consultation or your next visit.
What is NOUVADerm?
NOUVADerm is a 1927 nm fractional laser resurfacing platform. “Fractional” means it treats the skin in tiny columns and leaves untouched skin in between, which helps the skin heal faster. Your provider can choose between non-ablative, sub-ablative and ablative depth settings, so the treatment can be matched to your concern and how much downtime you can take.
It can be used on the face and on body areas such as the neck, chest, hands and arms, which are spots that often take the most summer sun.
What it can help with
- Sun spots and uneven tone from years of Florida sun
- Fine lines and rough texture, by supporting collagen remodeling
- Acne scars and other textural scarring, usually over a series of sessions
What to expect
Consultation
Your provider looks at your skin, asks about your goals, your health history and medications, and how much downtime fits your schedule. Not everyone is a candidate, and settings are chosen for your skin type and concern.
Treatment day
Most sessions take about 30–60 minutes, depending on the size of the area. Most people describe a warm, prickly feeling. Topical numbing is available for stronger settings.
Recovery
Downtime depends on the depth used. Lighter, non-ablative settings may have little visible downtime, while deeper settings can mean several days of redness and peeling. Your provider will give you a clear aftercare plan, including gentle skin care and daily mineral sunscreen while your skin heals.
How to prepare
- Avoid tanning and self-tanner in the weeks before treatment.
- Tell your provider about all medications and skin products, especially retinoids or acne medications.
- Let your provider know if you get cold sores, so it can be planned for.
- Ask about a Marini Skin Solutions prep routine, and start wearing a mineral zinc sunscreen every day.
- Plan any big events around your expected recovery time.
Want even more results?
Some patients pair laser resurfacing with Scarlet PRO RF microneedling for texture and firmness, or with neuromodulators for expression lines. Your provider can tell you whether a combination makes sense for you.
